Therapeutic Listening
_Therapeutic Listening is beneficial in treating people with a wide variety of sensory challenges. Therapeutic Listening addresses a child’s auditory and visual processing, spatial awareness, and understanding of time and space. As part of a Sensory Integration program, Therapeutic Listening will help with alertness, motor planning, emotional modulation, organisation, verbal communication, and various other areas of a child’s life skills development.
Skilled Kids Occupational Therapy offers a Therapeutic Listening program tailored to your child's needs. This type of treatment involves having your child listen to specially modified music for about 30 minutes, usually while doing a movement exercise. The modified music highlights important parts of the sound spectrum that stimulate self-organisation and attention. Therapeutic Listening can be done in your home while you observe, or in our clinic as part of regular treatment.
Listening commitment is twice a day 30 minutes each time with 3.0 hrs between each listening session.
The child should not be engaged in electronics, reading, learning, or watching TV when listening.
Financial commitments are assessment and goal setting at the OT hourly rate, chip rental at $75 every 3 months and 30 minutes of therapy every 2nd week. If the child is receiving OT treatment, the sessions will be extended by 15 minutes every second week for TL.
