A Registered OT must comply with all standards of practice and College code of ethics published on College website (section 88 of COTBC Bylaws).
At SKOT we ensure that your child is seen by a registered occupational therapist (OTR) or an occupational therapist assistant (OTA) under supervision of a registered OT. Direct supervision is when the OTR attends the session and supervises the OTA. Indirect supervision is when the OTR provides instructions to the OTA outside of the session in person or in writing; also when reviewing the progress notes which are maintained in your child's electronic files or paper files. The Registered OT assigns aspects of practice to supervised personnel, Registered OT remains responsible for OT treatment and assessments. Section 87 (1,2) of COTBC Bylaws.

Only SKOT staff (therapists and administrators) have access to your child's records. Your child's electronic information are in password secured lap top and in locked filing cabinets, they are filed in locked storage after discharge. Section 75 of COTBC Bylaws.
How can I access my child's records? (managing client records, practice standard #2) You can request your child's records and the information will be provided to you within one month. Section 86 (1-6) of COTBC Bylaws. The administrative cost for providing clients records are $25/hr and 25 cents per copy.
How long are my child's record protected (managing client records, practice standard #2) Your child's files are kept for 16 years after your child reaches age of maturity (19) and when no longer required, it will be properly destroyed. Section 80 of COTBC Bylaws.
